The South Western Railroad Company was first incorporated in 1845 in the State of Georgia as the Southwestern of Georgia Railroad, which in 1869 was acquired by the Central of Georgia Railway, later renamed the Central of Georgia Railroad & Banking Company (now the Central of Georgia Railroad, a subsidiary of the Norfolk Southern Railway).
