The Orange Blossom Extension Mining and Milling Company was formed in 1907 as an extension of the Orange Blossom Mine north of the town of Amboy, and the former mining town of Bagdad, California, in the Mohave Desert of San Bernardino County. Water was piped to the mines from nearby Budweiser Springs. By 1908, the company built an eight-stamp mill and a number of buildings, including an office, boarding house, rooming house, two cottages, an assay office, and laboratory. Just below the mine and mill a short distance, the company began plans for a company town named Hodgman, after company president James A. Hodgman. Plans were to include cottages for employees of the company having families, and hotel, post office building, and large general merchandise store. However, mining ceased in 1909 after the company went bankrupt, reportedly due to a failed mill and company mismanagement.
