    Description

    Offered is a
    one-owner
(no, not an automobile, but a baseball glove)
    first baseman's mitt
that was received within the time-frame of
    1955-1957
.  The reason I know that for certain is because
    Earl Torgeson
was playing first base for the Detroit Tigers when I received the glove, and those were the years Earl was playing for the Detroit Tigers.  The glove was made in the U.S.A. by the MacGregor Company out of Cincinnati, Ohio.  It is an
    Earl Torgeson model
    ,
    model # G154
.  I always referred to it as my
    "trapper"
whenever I played first base.  This glove, for being 66 years old, is in
    excellent
condition, because I always took good care of my baseball equipment because that equipment was the most important items I owned, next to my bicycle, which provided me transportation to all my ball games.
As I previously noted, the glove is in excellent shape.  All the lacing is tight and in tact, nothing is missing, and all the eyelets are in great shape.  The only thing that is "worn" is Earl's name on the glove, as it has had a lot of activity over the years.  On photos # 3 and #4 (especially #3), if the viewer will use the EBAY enhancer by clicking twice on the picture, one can see Earl's name as a facsimile autograph.
Earl Torgeson broke into the major leagues in 1947, and had a
    fifteen year career
.  He played 5 years for the
    Boston Braves
    , two years for the
    Philadelphia Phillies
    , two years for the
    Detroit Tigers
    , 5 years for the
    Chicago White Sox
, and one year for the
    New York Yankees
(1961) when the Yanks won the pennant and the World Series.  Although Torgeson's lifetime major league batting average was only
    .265
    , he hit
    149 home runs
and had an on-base percentage of
    .385
, as his good eyes allowed him to receive a lot of walks.  In 1950, Torgeson led the National League with 120 runs scored, and in 1957 Torgeson led the American League with a
    .999 fielding average
as a first baseman.  Torgeson was good!
Thank you for viewing my EBAY auction item.  (Please note:  I do
    not
    ship internationally.)  God bless.
