The Highlands Gold Mines Company was formed about 1900 to mine gold and silver on twelve claims (Knapp group) on 240 acres within the Rock Creek Mining District (Cracker Creek District) in Baker County, Oregon. The claims were first located in 1891 and development began in about 1900. The Highland Mine is located near the Elkhorn Divide of the headwaters of Rock Creek flowing to the east and Cracker Creek flowing to the west, about 15 miles northwest of Baker, Oregon.
