Dual 1229 Turntable w/Wood Base & Dust Cover - Fully Serviced & Working

The 1229 was Dual's flagship turntable from 1972 through 74 and is among their most sought-after models today. It's
a three speed (33, 45 & 78 RPM) fully automatic turntable as-well-as a record changer capable of stacking up to six records. Other features include a pitch control with strobe, anti-skate, damped cueing, a massive 7 pound platter and a single/multiple play lever that helps to maintain the correct vertical tracking angle (VTA) when stacking records.
It comes with a United Audio genuine wood base and dust cover. UA was the exclusive US importer of Dual turntables throughout the 1960's and 70's. The cartridge is an Empire "EXL-20 Improved" with a genuine Empire stylus of unknown age but in excellent condition (see photos). It also includes both single and multiple play spindles and the original Dual 45 RPM adapter (the one with the Dual name molded in).
The turntable was stripped to the bare chassis (see photos). Each part was cleaned, inspected and lubed (where required) before being reassembled. We replaced the tonearm glide (also known as the steuerpimpel), the anti-skate cam and the tonearm lift bearing retainer. We also replaced the RCA cables with a pair that uses genuine Amphenol plugs on quality cable with a capacitance of less than 23 pf per foot. Everything works just as it should.
Cosmetically, the unit's in excellent condition and presents very well. There are some signs of wear but it looks remarkably good for being 50 years old. Coincidentally the only condition issues of note are all in one place, the left rear, and all can clearly be seen in the last photo. They are: The dust cover has a very small (~ 1/2") crack, the base has an area where the veneer was repaired and a prior owner etched an identification number on top of the chassis.
