nautical from the Victorian Imperial Era, the c.1840. English Admiralty two-day Marine Chronometer by John Fletcher of London is housed on a pure mahogany Victorian display case. The silvered dial signed and numbered John Fletcher - MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY - 48 Lombard St. LONDON 1534. The Roman hour numerals, hour and minute hands, subsidiary seconds dial with blued steel hand and up-and-down dial with gold hand. The Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with Poole auxiliary and cylindrical heat compensation weights, polished steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jeweled locking stone, brass bowl and gimbal in three-tier mahogany box with quarter-round brass edging. There is an old white colored plaque of the 19th Century retailer “HEATH & Co, 2234, 8192 CROYDON & LONDON” to front of lid. The mahogany box case with brass fittings was professionally restored and top lid replaced. The movement is running strong and keeps perfect time with a full wind. Measures 18 cm high by 18,5 square, dial is 12 cm diameter. The chronometer looks AMAZING in person!
