Description
If purchasing with us please note that we ship by FedEx and since they do not deliver to PO Boxes a street address in eBay is necessary for a successful sale and shipment. Thank you! This item is a North Electric ringer box with mounting holes. When we found this item, there was a typed sticker attached to the magneto which stated, "The cog on the armature is free-wheeling. It needs to be repaired." Please be aware that we do not have the expertise to confirm this diagnostic statement. There is no ringer in the box. Overall, the wood is in good condition and the finish is fair.
Note these issues:
· magneto needs repair
· no ringer in the box
· backboard: 2 splits at the top edge of the backboard
· backboard: 2 splits at the bottom edge of the backboard
· backboard: the top two mounting holes appear to have a nail head in each of the holes. At first, we thought that the holes had been "patched," but then we discovered the nail heads
· door: see the "ghost" where the prior nametag was affixed. A North Electric metal nametag is on the door now, held on by 1 nail. The current nametag has different dimensions compared to "the ghost"
· inside surface of the door: 4 divots, 1 in each corner of the inside surface of the door
· inside surface of the door: 3 additional small divots, 1 more by the upper hinge, and 2 more by the lower hinge
Exterior: The outside of the box is marked with a metal North Electric nametag. The current nametag has different dimensions compared to "the ghost" of the prior nametag. The current nametag has been attached with 1 nail and is in good condition. Two bell gongs are mounted on the door, despite there being no ringer inside the box. There are 6 terminals at the lower edge of the backboard, and there is a porcelain knob on the crank handle.
Door closure: The door is fitted with a key closure mechanism. When the mechanism is rotated, a metal "tongue" is supposed to rotate into a slot in the wooden side wall of the box to secure the door. The lock mechanism does rotate smoothly, and the condition of the slot in the wooden sidewall is fair. The "tongue" does catch in the slot and secure the door. We were able to rotate the closure mechanism using an old key that we had on hand, however, AN OLD KEY DID NOT COME WITH THIS PHONE. *** Please be advised that an old key is NOT included in this sale ***.
Interior: Inside the box is a 5 bar unmarked multilayer magneto. As noted previously when we found this item, there was a note that stated, "The cog on the armature is free-wheeling. It needs to be repaired." The switch hook depresses smoothly, and there is no ringer in the box.
